Over time, the establishment has become a hotel of charm and character. A veritable island of greenery, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities, Les Jardins de Bakea allows you to relax and unwind while being only a few minutes from the ocean.

Formerly called ATXENIA, the house has existed since the end of the 19th century. At first it was a restaurant run by two sisters, the Bonnet sisters – who stood out during the war by carrying out various actions for the resistance. Among other things, numbers of airmen were hidden while waiting for moonless nights to cross the river and smuggle into Spain. Following a denunciation, one of the sisters was arrested and deported. The Germans then occupied the establishment to make it their HQ. The part we call the garden wing, located opposite the current reception, was built just after the war by the nieces of the Bonnet sisters and was only used as a hotel. Later the Bonnet sisters sold the restaurant part to their niece, Mrs. Lecuona, for life. A court then separated the two establishments. When the Sisters died in the 1960s, she inherited the establishment and continued to run it with her husband. They built the middle part where the kitchen is currently located, so as to combine everything into a single hotel and restaurant activity.
Several owners have succeeded each other until the arrival of Mr and Mrs Duval in 2000. In 2007 a new page turns, the part which dated from the 19th century is demolished then rebuilt in order to offer a hotel meeting the standards in force and provide better comfort to our customers.
A new step in 2017 with the interior demolition of the garden part and the restructuring of the spaces: creation of the Herriko Salon and 9 new rooms.
